HW
EQ: How can I make a personal connection to the novel I'm reading?
Reread the description of the Week of Peace. Discuss reasons for having such a week. What would such a week look like at our school? Create a plan for a Week of Peace in the school and respond to the following questions:

1. What time of year would you choose and why?
2. What would be the purpose?
3. What would be the rules?
4. What would be the punishment for opposing the plan?
5. What would be the social activities?

Create a poster as a graphic organizer for A Week of Peace. I will provide paper. Due Friday.

Bring a flat sheet for class Wed./Thurs.

Wed./Thurs.
EQ: How can I work collaboratively to produce a textually authentic view of characters and their relationships?

An Ibo tableau.
Supplies: index cards, markers, sheets, space, card stock, stapler, camera and tripod.

In small groups, work together to create a tableau (a freeze frame snapshot) that includes the major characters from Things Fall Apart.

Character list:
Okonkwo, first wife, Ojiugo, Chielo, Nwoye, Ikemefuna, Ezinma, Obierika, Ekwefi, Unoka

Step 1:
Create index cards for each character. This will be held and displayed by the person portraying the character in the tableau.

Step 2:
Review your facts about the character and create a one- to two-line statement for each character that he will speak. The statement should begin with "I am..," then state your character's name and reveal an interesting fact about the character. Let the lines you write and the way you deliver them demonstrate the attitude and personality of your character. Position your character in the tableau to demonstrate his relationship to the group.

Step 3:
Next, with your group, decide where each character should stand and how they should pose and where they should be positioned in relation to one another. Be prepared to present your tableau to the other students in your class by striking the pose and stepping out of the freeze frame one at a time to deliver your lines. Use the sheet for your costume.

Supplies: Photographs, card stock, stapler.
Take photographs of each character as they step out to make a flip bookout of the photos. Or, try drawing your own with this make your own flipbooks template.

Step 4:
Schedule computer time to create flip book. Work on peace posters during remainder of class.
